The clamour for Cameron Carter-Vickers to sign permanently for Celtic has been nothing short relentless.

Whilst many commentators in the game feel the deal is set to go through, the lack of movement on the deal is making the Celtic fans (and me!) jittery.

But what if the deal does fall through?

Where could Celtic turn to? Would we look to the American markets again? And if so, who would be available and a good choice for the club?

Here are three players I think could do a job for the Hoops:

Kessler is an international centre back capable of playing right and left centre. Valued at £1.8m, his contract expires in December this year and could be picked up either for free or for a nominal fee.

The towering defender was a graduate from the NYRB Academy and was drafted to the Beachside Soccer Club in 2015 before moving to the Virginia Cavaliers. He made his move to the MLS in January 2020 when he joined the New England Revolution where he has the US Cup and Supporters Shield.

The second is Auston Trusty. The Arsenal defender has currently been on loan with the Colorado Rapids but the London club are keen to get him some European experience [Arsenal website] which means he would be available on loan.

And what better place than the Scottish Champions in the Champions League?

At just 23 years old, Trusty is yet to gain his first full international cap but has been capped 11 times at u20 level.

Highly rated, Trusty can also play both sides of central defence and made 16 appearances for The Rapids.

His contract doesn’t expire until December 2023 which explains why the Premier League club are keen to get him some much needed game time.

Both players wouldn’t cost the earth in terms of wages or fee but is the American market another one of these untapped sources that Ange Postecoglou wants to explore?
