Well, this isn’t really a surprise is it?

The aftermath of all the controversy surrounding the tribute’s to the Queen will no doubt kick off this week and after the Celtic fan’s banner at the Shakhtar Donetsk game last week, news that Europe’s governing body is charging the club for an offensive was predictable [BBC].

But former ref Keith Hackett reckons a fine is coming Celtic’s way then made this bizarre statement.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett said, “People assume it was Celtic fans and they did unveil this anti-patriotic banner,”

“Ultimately, I take the view that people are allowed the right to protest.

“What’s important to note that in Europe, UEFA try to keep out of politics and all that goes with it. They try to be neutral.

“Here is Celtic doing the opposite to some degree.

“It’s possible that Celtic will get a fine. You’re not supposed to have banners.

“It will be interesting to see how they handle it. Effectively, given the bit of unpleasantness that came through, I think they will deal with it with a fine.”

Since when does UEFA keep out of politics?

Their stance on Ukraine is pretty clear. Is that not political?

Their compliance in the whole monarchy debate is deeply political.

Their support for the LGBTQ movement (although is 100% correct) still carries with it a degree of politics.

They charge Celtic for fans waving Palestinian flags but allow every country to show their support to Ukraine.

They also booted Russian clubs from their continental tournaments.

Are they that not political moves?

UEFA are very much in the business of politics, but it seems only those that suit the agenda.

It’s the dreaded international break. So take away the boredom and try our *BRAND NEW* quiz. Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
