It has been the worst kept secret in Celtic. Even before Kristoffer Ajer spoke on Norwegian television to state his intentions of leaving Celtic in the summer, many had suspicions that Ajer was making moves to leave the club.

There has been interest from various clubs around Europe including England, Italy and now Germany.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has dropped the biggest hint yet as to where the big Norwegian’s future lies as he confirms Celtic are “in talks” and we could be looking at Ajer joining former team mate Jeremy Frimpong in the Bundesliga next season.

Speaking on the Only As Good As Your Last Game podcast, Joseph said, “What we do know is the Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with Celtic to try and sign Kristoffer Ajer.

Is Ange Postecoglou the man for the Celtic job?

“And I think Celtic will be hoping to get something near 10 million pounds for him.

“But again, it’s no further on than in talks. We know Bayer Leverkusen like Ajer  a lot, and we could see link up again between Kristoffer Ajer and Jeremy Frimpong there so just watch this space on that one.”

The transfer fee being spoken about is pretty derisory for a young international centre back, even with Ajer entering the final year of his contract, Celtic should be looking to try and get more value than the £10m being quoted.

A healthy sell on clause would possibly help soften the blow, but with Celtic looking at losing at least three players for a fraction of their value, the Hoops fans will be left feeling perplexed as to what has happened at the club to allow these situations with player contracts to run down.
