Yesterday I wrote a piece about how journalist, Brian McNally, called out referee John Beaton’s performance in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Dundee United.

McNally said of the ref, ““Seems Beaton doesn’t know the rules or watched VAR calls in England. No surprise there!

“A shocking call by a ref, who also has a linesman who doesn’t know the offside law.”

Obviously this was in reaction to Daizen Maeda’s goal being chalked off for handball after Giorgos Giakoumakis inadvertently played the ball to the Japanese strikers path via an unfortunate ricochet off his hand.

To say it was a poor call is an understatement and these hoops fans let Vital Celtic know their feelings about it.

Jack said: “Mans a cheat nobody that bad at there job”

Long time contributor to the site Seppington added: “You haven’t worked with half the clowns I have clearly!

“But yes, brother Beaton is a corrupt cheat and biases aside, shouldn’t be allowed to referee a match st any level until he can prove he fully and properly understands the rules of the game.”

Tam continued: “If the punishment for cheating or getting it wrong is no punishment at all..

“Why stop cheating or try to get It right .

“I wonder what the head of referees Mr Crawford Allan thinks.
We will never know.”

And user Gerry borrowed a line from the late, great Jock Stein that makes the referee’s involvement irrelevant: “We all know where this guy’s allegiance lies.

“It’s obvious that the bloke will do all in his power to stop Celtic.  No surprise there.

“I’m 66 in June and it has been the same since I was a youngster.

“Do what big jock said keep playing football the Celtic way and they have no answer to it COYBIG !!!”

Chris Sutton also called Beaton ‘incompetent‘ for his performance on the night and his lack of knowledge of the rules of the game.

Let’s hope VAR will come into play sooner rather than later to help cut out these ‘honest mistakes’.

I had actually spoken with an official grade 1 down in the West Midlands and although he does not officiate in the top leagues in England anymore is because he is in his 60’s, I had known him for many years since away back in the 80’s and he still keeps his whistling skills in by officiating now and again assisting grass roots football and even at his age he still keeps himself fit, We had a discussion about Scottish referee’s officials and he didn’t have (ie) one good word to say about them his actual wording was summed up in one word {PATHETIC} enough said, So as myself being a Scotsman officiating in the leagues down south, I asked him what did you think about myself as a referee officiating in the middle all he said was some or most of the teams players and managers were glad when you went back up to Scotland they said that you were at that time (ie) – Yellow & Red Card Happy & Far to strict always going by the letter of the law and the 17 +1 Laws of the game, I think possibly maybe a little too harsh, But hey I always stuck by the laws of the game, But as I have always said I had taken the good games with the not so good games and have always stood by this saying and all being all did enjoy being a referee, Being in the middle or Running the line !!!

I worry about VAR coming in,as it means they will have their own refs in charge, look at the luck they have had in Europe with VAR
