Celtic do seem, now, to have the central defence high on their list as an area requiring strengthening in this summer window.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers expected to sign on permanently and the future of Christopher Jullien in the balance, it seems as though Ange Postecoglou is scouring the market to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Fresh links to Japanese star Ko Itakura have resurfaced after some interest in the winter window but it was this report from Kenyan news outlet, People Daily, about international defender Joseph Okumu, that caught my attention.

The media outlet reported an unnamed spokesperson of the Kenyan international claimed,  “We have had informal interests from English side Arsenal and Scottish giants Celtic, but German side Borussia Dortmund is the first side to make an official inquiry about the central defender who is open to a move if a proper agreement is reached.”

Okumu has been capped fifteen times by his country and currently plays for Gent in the Belgian Juliper League.

The 25 year old helped the club to their first Belgian Cup win since 2010.

Valued at just over £4m, he has a contract until 2025 but with interest from Bundesliga giants Dortmund and England’s Arsenal, Celtic could very well find themselves priced out of a move for the 6ft 2″ stopper.
