Celtic have been urged to make a January move for Calvin Ramsey of Aberdeen.

With the Hoops rebuild now in full swing, there are key areas in the squad that still need attention which includes back up positions from the bench.

What has been apparent over the course of the last few weeks, is the lack of strength in depth at the club whenever there is an injury to a key player and as Paul John Dykes and Colin Watt discussed how they feel the new signings are performing so far this season on the A Celtic State of Mind podcast.

The two host’s were discussing the right back position and where they agreed that Juranovic should be, or will be, the first choice pick, there was a discussion about if Ralston was good enough as an able back up should he need to step into Juranovic’s shoes.

Dykes said Ralston is a good back up option to have where Colin Watt disagreed and he came up with a brilliant suggestion on who Celtic could or should move for in the January window, “We do need another number two, in my opinion, and if I was given the opportunity to pick the player coming in, I would go with Calvin Ramsey at Aberdeen.

“I think the boy is going to be an absolute star.

“We’ve already seen the interest that’s been shown in him.

“Celtic has had interest in him for a while now, but he’s been offered trials down south to teams including Manchester United.

“I think this is the sort of time Celtic’s got to get in there and pick up that young talent.

“When they go to the likes of Manchester United, Celtic just can’t afford to keep up with them.

“We have to move in now and make that, and if we have to send him back out on loan to Aberdeen for the entire season, then that’s maybe the idea that has to be done.

“But when you see a young talent like that coming through the Scottish League, you’re thinking, if that was the Celtic in the 80s or the 90s, we would be all over that like a rash.”

Ramsey has been an absolute standout for the Dons this season so far but if Celtic did make their move in January the main question would be how much would they be willing to pay for one of Scotland’s top prospects?
