As the talk continues on who is in the running for the next Celtic manager, the team on the A Celtic State of Mind YouTube broadcast today were discussing a duo that have serious connections to Glasgow and Celtic.

Host, Paul John Dykes recalled the time when he first suggested Shaun Maloney and Roberto Martinez back in October when Celtic were losing to Aberdeen, “I was asked and I did mention Martinez and Maloney back then,  and naturally was laughed at for several weeks”.

When discussing an interview Shaun Maloney gave over the weekend, Dykes asked co-host, Natasha Meikle, her thoughts on what Maloney had to say about taking the vacant Celtic position, and she seemed very keen on Maloney being the man to take the Celtic hot seat, “Well, he didn’t say no,  I think that’s what we’ve got to hold on to at the moment.  Ultimately if it’s the Maloney and Martinez combination then that’s not Shaun’s decision alone and he can’t make that up for both of them.

“But they both have strong links to Glasgow. Martinez as well I believe he still has a home here, his wife’s family are from Glasgow and Maloney still clearly spends significant amount of time over here still lives here, so there are connections to Glasgow that could help make it appealing, but it’s up to the board to make the football side of things appealing.

Who would you prefer as next Celtic manager?

SHAUN MALONEY

ROBERTO MARTINEZ

DOUBLE ACT

“They need to offer them the right package, the right autonomy, the right roadmap and give them what they need to achieve what they want at to the club and if they can offer them that and offer them this route back into club football, then that would be excellent for us

“Now as I say that I’m sure that Martinez and Maloney after the Euros are going to have many options back into club football, but for Celtic it’s about making ourselves the most attractive one.”

It was an interesting insight on from the ACSOM team and it seems it will be a debate that could run for weeks to come.
