Kieran Tierney is celebrating his 21st birthday today and so perhaps now is as good as any to reflect on what he’s achieved so far in his short career.
The left-back quickly made the position his own as a teenager and hasn’t looked back since, with him bombing on down that flank and offering brilliant service both going forwards and getting back.
He’s got a cultured left-foot but is also sharp and snappy in the challenge and that, to me, is what makes him one of the best young defenders in Europe – he can actually do both roles his job requires.
Where could his career head, then? Well, I see him staying with us for some time longer and more trophies will come with that, but you have to wonder whether come his peak years he’ll move on.
We all hope he won’t and there’s no inkling to suggest that is going to happen but he’s certainly on the right path to play almost anywhere in the continent, that’s for sure.
It’s easy to forget how young he still is, then, and the only certainty is that we’re going to enjoy seeing him get even better in the near future.
So, let’s do that first.
