Honest mistakes.

The term used by the media in Scotland to gloss over the fact that either referees are incompetent or that they have an inherent bias towards one team in the country.

It’s lazy terminology used by the media guys so that they don’t actually have to do some proper journalism to find out why there are so many mistakes being made.

Why one team benefits from ‘honest mistakes’.

So if there is no appetite to investigate it, then they certainly shouldn’t open up the debate to the wider public on phone ins and ask the normal punter on the street what should be done about them.

This Celtic fan called Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and host Gordon Duncan asked him if punishing the refs for their mistakes makes them better.

This is what the fan said, “I think you have to look, you don’t like singling anybody out,  I think you have to look at Willie Collum.

“Willie Collum is a regular offender. I mean, I remember being at Celtic Park probably over 10 years ago, when his back was turned to Kirk Braodfoot and gave a penalty kick.

“I mean, this isn’t a new thing with Willie Collum.

“One of the interesting things about that decision at the weekend was, Willie Collum didn’t even go look at the TV monitor.

“Yeah, it comes up on the screen that VAR made that decision. I’m not entirely sure that VAR did make that decision.”

Gordon then replied back, “VAR never makes the decision. And I know people think I’m splitting hairs here. I just think it’s important to say it’s always the referee’s final call.

“If it was up on the screen to say if there’s a VAR check, but that’s a different thing from going over to the monitor and Willie Collum deciding.

“I admire the point, Andy, but if you think we’ve got time to go over Willie Collum’s back catalogue from the last decade on a night like this, I think that’s ambitious.”

Why ask the question if you are just going to ignorantly dismiss the guys point?

And his point was perfectly valid.

His Ibrox red card is not a one off mistake. Collum has made many game-changing mistakes and yet, he remains as one of our top referees in the country.

So what do we do then? Just let the incompetence go or do we look at holding referees accountable?

Or do we just do what Duncan did there and just brush it off with ignorance?

Who were Celtic’s most expensive transfer additions in these seasons?

How does Columm last in his position being incompetent and Biased.

    Just listened to tonights show

Absolute chug fest because they beat a team who constantly lie down to them

I’m never listening to it again , because I can’t stand the presenter , he just never shuts up

It is frightening to think that once Collum has retired from refereeing he will probably be posted into a supervisory role in either training refs or VAR. We cannot hold out much hope for improvement if he sets the standard.
