Celtic defender Andrew Gutman will not be heading to Nashville SC on loan after Major League Soccer rejected the transfer, as reported by The Daily Record.

The Hoops signed the left-back on a three-and-a-half year deal on deadline day alongside compatriot Manny Perez, but it was immediately announced the duo would be heading back to their homeland on loan.

It now looks like Gutman is set for an early return to Glasgow, with Major League Soccer refusing to sign off on the loan deal, for reasons unknown currently.

Celtic have not utilised the American market much in recent years, but hopes were high that the duo could get senior action under their belt and return to the Hoops to push for a first-team place.

Gutman is a product of the American college system and last year was voted the best player at that level.

However, he has never played professionally and it’s likely too big an ask for him to come into Brendan Rodgers’ squad and compete with Emilio Izaguirre and Kieran Tierney.

Whether we can now work out a new loan for him remains unclear but hopefully the manager can cast some light on the situation over the next few days.
