There seemed to be a glimmer of hope that there was a real appetite for change amongst certain members of the Rangers support after the outrageous Kyogo Furuhashi racism row.

The Scottish mainstream media seemed to be pushing hard for the club to take a stance and to be fair to them, they rooted out the racists in that supporters bus and banned them indefinitely from Ibrox. And the Rangers fans, who were at least vocal, did seem to stand behind Kyogo and their club.

But then came the Glasgow Derby and the shocking online video of a group of Rangers fans chanting and singing anti Irish and anti Catholic songs through Glasgow City Centre, escorted by the police.

Since then, there have been nine arrests and online outrage led mostly by Michael Stewart as the BBC reporter tried to break the Ibrox clubs silence as well as the Scottish Football Authorities strange lack of vocal condemnation of the incidents.

And then came a supporters action group, Rangers Fans For Change. Mostly active on Twitter, the group did seem like a genuine attempt to force change at Ibrox from a section of the Ibrox support that seemed change was required to rid the club of it’s sectarian and racist problem.

Not so says prominent Celtic blogger, Phil Mac Giolla Bháin. In his latest blog, Mac Giolla Bháin said of the group, “Dear Reader, until there is a name and a face to RFFC, I will stick to what my impeccably placed source has told me i.e. it is a PR operation from The Blue Room.

“Now, as I have already stated, the provenance of this spin did emanate from genuine fans within the corporate box section of the support.”

If what Phil is saying is true, it will be a blow to those people that thought there was a genuine appetite for change within the Ibrox support.

I hope Phil is way off the mark here, and in some way he will too.
