Celtic are on the verge of closing the deal for Preston North End defender, Ben Davies, on a pre contract according to Sky Sports. The Hoops have been after the Englishman since the summer transfer window and talks are said to be at an advanced stage for the 25 year old.

Davies is out of contract in the summer and there are a number of clubs interested including English Football League sides Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

The versatile stopper can play both centre back and left back has made 18 appearances this season and Preston manager, Alex Neil, is all but resigned to losing his man.

Davies gained first team experience at various clubs including York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County and Fleetwood Town, before breaking into Preston’s first-team during the 2017/18 season.

The Hoops face a major rebuilding project in the summer and boss, Neil Lennon, will be delighted that it looks like he will be getting his man, if he is still at the club next season, especially after seemingly losing Jeremie Frimpong today.

The bookies have installed Rafa Benitez as the favourite to replace the Hoops boss with Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard second and third favourites respectively for the position.

The Hoops supporters will be hopefull of getting this signing over the line after missing out on various targets this window.
