Well it looks like his days might be numbered.

After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, Vasilis Barkas could yet be on his way out of Celtic amid some interest from Europe.

Vital Celtic reported just under two weeks ago that the £5m keeper is set to leave Celtic after interest was reported from an unnamed Turkish club.

After talks with Sheffield United broke down, it seems Swedish side, IFK, are now being heavily linked with the Greek international after a report [The Sun] says their Sporting Director Pontus Farnerud revealed that they are on the verge of signing a goalkeeper to join them at their winter training camp,  “We want to bring in a goalkeeper, and we will do that. We are close. But I do not want to say who it is.

“We want a more experienced goalkeeper.

“We have looked at many and have been careful in the process and have high ambitions to find the right keeper with as much quality as possible.”

After being linked with Barkas last week, these comments will be welcomed by the Celtic hierarchy if it means getting a  £20,000 per week salary removed from their books.

And with the Swedish transfer window still open, there is plenty of time for a deal to be concluded.

Barkas has slipped further down the pecking order behind Joe Hart and Scott Bain and as Bain has just recently put pen to paper on a new deal, that effectively and officially ended Barkas Celtic career.

Try £30k – £35k per week and you’ll be closer to the mark. Barkas, Ajeti & Boli are stealing about £100k out of our club every week. If they don’t go in this window, then they absolute must go in the summer
