With all the talk of Celtic and their possible transfer incomings after the weekends injury news, it seems that one high profile departure that was expected to be completed has flew under the radar.

Hoops keeper, Vasilis Barkas, was in talks with EFL side Sheffield United about a proposed loan move that would have seen the Championship club pick up a significant percentage of the Greek internationals £20k per week salary.

But it seems that The Blades have walked away from the deal due to Celtic’s financial demands where they wanted to insert a £2.5m option to buy clause at the end of the season.

According to reports [Football Scotland], United manager Paul Heckingbottom has pulled the plug and now the Hoops now need to get back to the drawing board to try and offload the £5m flop.

It was expected that Barkas would move in this window and earlier in the month there was reported interest from Turkey and although no club was officially named, hopes were high that the Greek international would be on his way out in this window.

With less than a week to go before the window slams shut, it seems that the Hoops may have to lower their demand and accept a significant loss on the former Hoops No 1 if they are to have any hope of getting him out the club.
