As Celtic look to close out the league this weekend with a victory over our rivals, the chance of getting our hands on a £40m jackpot is nearing ever close.

The amount of damage Ange Postecoglou could do in the Scottish league with a transfer budget made up of even of half of that cash is frightening when you look at the talent he has brought in so far this season.

But let’s not kid ourselves, both clubs were going hell for leather for this title because of exactly what is at stake.

There has, however, been a strange narrative circulating around that, somehow, this league title doesn’t matter because of our rivals participation in the Europa League.

It’s a strange one because we all know, at the start of the season, all that mattered was becoming Champions.

So is it a coincidence that as Celtic are set to lift the trophy that the narrative around punditry and fan circles has changed?

Of course not. And that was addressed on The Boycie Bus podcast.

Speaking about the impending game on Sunday, host Russell said, “We all know at the start of the season, forget about the rivalry stuff, right? Both teams were playing for this year, a 40 million pound jackpot.

“I’ve spoken about this at length on the old pod. Look, I was all for whatever it was he [Postecoglou] was trying to implement but we don’t really have the time now, was my worry.

If you could only sign one player, which would it be?

“So if you let your rival get the £40 million in year two of this transformation, this transition season doesn’t really work in Scotland.

“Ange has managed to combine both.  He’s rolled it up and he’s thought, ‘I’ll manage to win this league whilst transitioning the way Celtic thinks as a team, as well as bringing in players that you’ve never heard of in your life’ .

“Now what we are on the cusp of doing is that knockout blow against them. We beat Rangers, we’ve won the league.”

And he is 100% spot on.

All that matters this year is the league. It’s all that mattered every year. Even when Celtic made it to Seville, all that mattered was the league.

I don’t recall one Celtic fan claiming at that time the league was secondary because we were in the UEFA Cup Final?

But whatever helps you sleep at night lads………………..
