He isn’t the popular choice amongst the fans when it comes to who should become the next Celtic manager but Frank McAvennie has back Roy Keane to sort out the ‘soft’ players he reckons can’t handle the criticism that comes their way when representing the Hoops.

Speaking to the Football Insider, McAvennie said Keane would clear out Celtic and assemble a squad capable of handling criticism, “If Roy Keane comes into Celtic, he will bring in the kind of player who can deal with his approach. The Celtic players at the moment, they can’t handle that, they’re soft. Your manager should be able to criticise you if you do something wrong.

Roy Keane for next Celtic gaffer?

YES

YES

NO

NO

“Your gaffer should be shouting things like ‘what are you doing?’ and if they can’t handle that they go and cry to their mum. Sometimes Keane’s temper can get the better of him but what’s he supposed to do if one of his players has a terrible first half? It’s part of football.”

Since the news of Keane broke that he was in the running for the job, Vital Celtic ran a poll and the results of that were overwhelming. Out of over 14,000 people polled, an amazing 76% of those that took the poll said they did not want Keane as the next Celtic gaffer.

As talk of a split in the Celtic boardroom over the appointment broke at the end of March, it seems that as long as current favourite, Eddie Howe, continues to stall on a decision on who should become the next manager, Roy Keane’s name seems to not want to go away.
