Kristoffer Ajer made another big impression on Celtic supporters last night, producing a towering defensive performance to keep Rosenborg quiet for the majority of the UEFA Champions League qualifying clash.
Still just 20 years old, Ajer looked a player beyond his years up against the experienced Nicklas Bendtner.
Brendan Rodgers and the coaching staff at Celtic are developing him into a top class defender and it’s tremendously exciting to consider what heights his game will reach over the next few years.
On an evening that French duo Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham were on top form with some beautiful goals, it says a lot that many felt they needed to single out Ajer as a stand-out.
The 3-1 victory against the Norwegian visitors puts the Hoops well in control of the tie, with a professional performance required next week in Trondheim to see them through to face AEK Athens.
A lot has been said about Celtic’s defensive options recently, but in Ajer at least they have a player ready to compete domestically and in Europe.
These fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the player after last night’s victory…
Ajer looks like a player who has been playing centre back for the last 20 years, an incredible talent.

Callers on @ClydeSSB tonight and Gordon Dalziel saying ‘Hendry and Ajer’ grew into the game after a nervy start. Hendry did but Ajer was superb all night. Just because he is young doesn’t mean he isn’t and wasn’t top class

I said that too tonight. Looked a leader on the park, took everything in his stride.

Had bendtner in his back pocket. Also, commanding in the air. Terrific talent 👌🏻

He's got a tremendous temperament and can develop into a top class CH. Also we are To quick to criticise young Hendry as he looked decent last night. Big Toure must be working his magic on them
