“It was an incredible piece of defending” – Pundit on Duffy

|

Shane Duffy’s latest defensive shambles was picked apart today by pundits on BBC Sportsound. The Irish defender has had a torrid time since his big loan move from Brighton and today, his performance didn’t get any better. If anything, and I didn’t think this would be possible, it got WORSE!

The pundits could not hide their disbelief at his part in St Mirren’s second goal in their 2-1 over Celtic at Celtic Park:

Stephen Craigan, “He’s running back toward his own goal with no idea of where the ball is, no idea of where the man is, he turns round to try and face the ball and as he does that Durmus just nicks in front of him.

“Duffy’s STILL going the wrong way, it’s an incredible piece of defending.

“Even his own players looked at him and shrugged their shoulders.”

Michael Stewart: “He’s nowhere near the ball, it’s as if he’s twisting and turning away.

“He doesn’t have a clue where the ball is, Durmus controls it in midair, sets himself and smashes into the back of the net.

“It goes through Bain but I wouldn’t overly criticise the goalkeeper.”

Tom English: : “That is absolutely shocking! It’s ineptitude. He doesn’t know what he’s doing, he doesn’t know where he is.”

Richard Gordon: “It was a fine finish from Ilkay Durmus but even you will be consumed by the ineptitude of Shane Duffy, I promise you.”
