we all know that when players come to Scotland to play their football it’s because they want to use a club like ours as a stepping stone to earn a move to a bigger league which will improve their chances of international recognition.

Barring home grown players, you will get the odd anomaly like Henrik Larsson who just fall in love with the club and stay whilst their international career flourishes but on the main, players do look at us as a stepping stone.

I have absolutely no problem with that. It works for us.

We get very good players to help us be successful and eventually, a healthy cash profit at the end of a transfer. Win win.

But what if you are already at Celtic and your form is so good, it earns you a recall to your national side? What then?

Do you still yearn for a move? Or do you stay, play in front of 60,000 fans, win trophies, get paid very well and represent your country?

For me, you stay. All day long.

And hopefully that’s what the USA coach, Gregg Berhalter, has convinced Carter-Vickers to do with his latest announcement.

Speaking to the press [The Sun], Berhalter said, “For the June matches, I will be inviting two players who weren’t part of the qualifying effort – Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic and Haji Wright at Antalyaspor.

“Both are enjoying fine seasons in Europe.

“I would rather look at a guy like Carter-Vickers to see what he can do than someone like John Brooks at Wolfsburg because I have worked with him before and know what he’s all about.

“There are still some World Cup spots still up for grabs. It’s not locked in.”

Hopefully this proves to CCV that he is where he belongs. Hopefully the board can come up with a package to convince him to stay at Celtic.

Hopefully.
