I sometimes wonder what goes through pundits/reporters minds when they open their mouths to make football predictions.

Now, yes, I am fully aware that a prediction is simply that. A guess. A call on how you see a game going but surely you must make that call based on an informed choice and not just a throwaway comment to get radio ratings?

Maybe he didn’t do that but it certainly comes across that way because with Celtic not even close to finishing strengthening the squad before Tuesday nights qualifier, it seems that they should just give up as their elimination from the competition is a foregone conclusion.

Mark Guidi based his prediction on the state of the Celtic defence, and with the Hoops ready to announce the signing of Carl Starfelt and also in talks Royal Antwerp for Aurelio Buta AND the possibility of Brandon Soppy joining the ranks, his basis for his prediction is looking more foolish as the days go on.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, reporter and pundit, Guidi, gave the Hoops next to no chance of qualifying for the group stages and although, admittedly, it will be a tough ask, it will not be as impossible as some people may think,  “You would certainly like more experience and I don’t know what the situation is with Nir Biton, if Nir Biton is fit. I would have him in there just to have that experience.  He’s been through these Champions League qualifiers in the past.

“I know he’s not everybody’s cup of tea in terms of Celtic supporters, but I do like Greg Taylor.

“Yes I think they left back position needs to be looked at. But I do have confidence in Greg Taylor.

“There will be a frustration that, whether it be the goalkeeper situation or the central defender situation hasn’t been sorted out quicker.

“It’s a disappointment that they haven’t addressed the defensive situation because there’s 35 million quid riding on this Midtjyilland game.

“If they progress to the games will get harder and harder and eventually I don’t see Celtic qualifying anyway for the Champions League, but they would like to put a marker down that they’ve got something about them.”

Might as well just not turn up then.
