Celtic fans would prefer Dedryck Boyata signs a new contract this summer rather than being sold, after a number of teams have been linked with a move to buy him off the back of his World Cup performances with Belgium.

Boyata played all three of Belgium’s group stages matches in Russia, although has not featured so far in the knock-out stages, with their latest match set to come tonight against France in the semi-finals.

Last month, Lazio were linked with a move for the defender, while last week new Premier League outfit Fulham were also credited with an interest by The Sun.

With just a year left on his contract at the Hoops, clearly the prospect of him leaving before the end of August is high, although Brendan Rodgers has admitted he would like the 27-year-old to commit his long-term future to the club with a new contract.

While there are certainly many fans that would like to see him leave Celtic Park, 52% of respondents to a poll we published last week voted in favour of him signing that new deal and staying, rather than being moved on.

He’s clearly a player who splits opinion but it will be interesting to see how his situation players out over the next six weeks or so.

You can see the full results of our poll below…
