Loans (whoah), what are they good for?

Absolutely nothing………unless you are Cameron Carter-Vickers.

But for Osaze Urhoghide, that remains true.

The 19 year old has spent the last few months on loan at KV Oostende and has now returned to the club as the Belgians decided [Daily Record] against signing him permanently.

And to be fair, the clubs Chief Executive did already warn that the asking price Celtic were looking for was too high when he was asked about the defender just over two weeks ago“Urhoghide has proved to be an excellent addition, but the problem is he is still too expensive for us.

“But I hope we can work out a solution with Celtic, then I would be very happy because we really want to keep Osaze.”

I still believe that Urhoghide could offer the team some decent defensive cover if required and wasn’t keen on the club selling him as I wrote in this piece back in March.

Urhoghide clearly wasn’t an Ange signing. The transfer was already agreed before the manager took up the post and to be fair to the Celtic gaffer, he did promise that he would give all players a fair crack of the whip when he came to the club.

Has Urhoghide had that?

We simply don’t know what happens at training but I would like to think that after impressing the staff at Oostende, Osaze’s confidence could be boosted and hopefully kick him on to try and win a place in Ange Postecoglou’s team for next season.

He’s an interesting choice, especially given Julliens position. There must be a player in him given his review from his loan spell, but with him turning 22 next month, maybe still a little young to be playing Centre Back for us?

…though as the old adage goes, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough, so i suppose the decision is all Ange’s.
