With yesterday’s news, as confirmed by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, that striker Leigh Griffiths was being given an extended break from football owing to some personal issues he had to prioritise, it’s probably not a great surprise to see some completely show themselves up.
As previously covered, the 28-year-old will now spend the foreseeable future away from the game as he deals with the personal issues that have been troubling him in recent times, and the vast majority in the world of football have rallied around him and sent him their good wishes, hoping that he’s back on the football pitch sooner rather than later.
That’s certainly true for Celtic fans as they reacted to the announcement on social media. Sadly, there’s another side to social media and those who feel they can say anything and positively revel in the misfortune of others – presumably thinking it makes them clever.

Addiction of any kind is a horrible horrible illness. The sad thing is it seems socially acceptable to mock a gambling addiction nowadays opposed to drink or drugs. It destroys life's in exactly the same way. I hope the boy gets the help he requires.

Sometimes, no words are the correct response but fair play to the two chaps who bucked the trend – I’d like to think rivalry and banter aside, there were more of them.
