Celtic were knocked out of Europe last night as we fell to a 3-0 defeat on aggregate against Valencia at Mestalla.
Despite starting well and being backed by a good away support, Jeremy Toljan’s soft sending off changed the game and eventually the Spanish side won through.
A fairly positive display from the Bhoys at times, but certainly not enough after the first leg debacle and you wonder whether Valencia were performing as well as they could given the balance of the tie.
All those points are rather academic now, though, as the fact of the matter is we are out and they are not – and we both move on.
Even so, John Hartson was fairly pleased with what he saw from the side last night and had this to say on social media site Twitter:
Celtic showed they can cause problems at European level.. good performance, if not for the sending off may well have been so different. 👍🏻

An interesting take, and one that has divided many to be honest.
Let’s take a look at what has been said in light of his comments.
Johnny Hayes showing he's worth a start. Some effort. Celtics best player ☘

Much more confident in taking the ball in the boxes tonight John and playing between the lines…hopefully we have found a system for going away in Europe next season

Mind the first leg John. Beaten easily and Valencia just professionally dealing with seeing tie out. Probably at half speed.
