Celtic fans were up in arms watching Sky Sports’ coverage of their 3-1 win against Kilmarnock at Rugby park last night after pundit Kris Boyd launched an astonishing attack on Leigh Griffiths professionalism.
Boyd had spoken about Griffiths having “four weeks to save his Celtic career” on Sky Sports after a series of on and off the field troubles had restricted his appearances over the last couple of seasons.
Griffiths responded at the weekend with his first goal since August in the Scottish Cup win then followed it up with another goal and assist against Killie, his celebration following his goal was aimed directly at Boyd and will surely be another to irritate Charlie Nicholas as he continues to police the goal celebrations of Celtic players.
Post-match, Boyd detailed why he felt his comments were justified and – despite having his own mental health charity – neglected to mention the prolonged period of absence that Griffiths had due to his own, much publicised, issues.
Should Kris Boyd be sacked by Sky Sports following his comments about Leigh Griffiths?
Yes
No
Hoops fans took to Twitter to demand action be taken on Boyd after showing such negligence in his duties as a pundit on one of the biggest media platforms available.
@ScotlandSky drop kirs Boyd for further games in Scotland due to his comments about leigh Griffiths mental health awareness

Kris Boyd’s comments on Leigh Griffiths last night were terrible but we know he is a bitter man with an agenda. By their silence it seems Steve Clarke and @SkySports have the same agenda. Boyd should have been challenged on his pathetic, irresponsible comments. pic.twitter.com/TKzbsloESH

A special thank you to Kris Boyd last night for doing Leigh Griffiths a favour by only identifying the league games he missed due to ill health! Public personal attack on a guy who’s rebuilding a name and career! @ScotlandSky #celtic

A lot’s been said about Boyd’s actions re: Leigh Griffiths. Disgraceful behaviour. His body language & the way he delivered his tirade was telling. He was the one who was out of control, such was his desire to get personal against Leigh. Any (unlikely) apology will be hollow.

@SkySports Please can you outline what you plan to do about Kris Boyd’s uneducated attack last night on Leigh Griffiths, who has openly taken time out of the game to recover from mental health? Absolutely disgusting. Clearly Kris thinks it’s NOT ok to not be ok…

With Griffiths playing just 40 games and scoring 10 goals over the last couple of seasons, Boyd, to a certain degree, has a point, he needs to continue his current form and availability to prolong his Parkhead career, however, the way he clumsily and almost, aggressively made it overstepped the mark in the eyes of Neil Lennon and Celtic fans.
