“Very, Very surprised” – Two pundits throw out latest Celtic agenda

What is it with the Scottish media getting into a frenzy about some of the decisions Celtic are being awarded this season?

I have never known so many column inches, instant replays and debates on menial referee decisions being afforded to the club in my whole time supporting them.

And I genuinely mean that.

There does seem to be a narrative building that the referees are giving Celtic a helping hand to win this seasons title amongst a certain section of fans in Scotland but it simply untrue.

I wrote last night about the introduction of  VAR to Scottish football could be coming sooner than we think, and you will be hard pressed to find a single Celtic fan against the idea.

If we were benefiting so much from referee mistakes, why would we want to help them?

The whole thing is quite bizarre.

But not as bizarre as a four day inquest into why Reo Hatate was not sent off against Dundee United on Sunday.

It seems there could be calls for the Compliance Officer to take another look at the incident but there are two pundits that think John Beaton made the correct call in producing the yellow card.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Roger Hannah and Gordon Dalziel poured cold water over the hysteria of Hatate’s ‘tackle’. Sun journalist Hannah said, “When you see again, I actually think  John Beaton has probably called it correctly.

“The Compliance Officer, he seems to operate in waves. He was very quiet for a while, and then seems to be busy and he’s going through a quieter spell again at the moment.

“I would be very, very surprised if this was one that he chose to take on.”

Dalziel agreed when he said, “I was watching the pace that Hatate was going at but I don’t think it’s a red card. No.

“A lot of people will probably disagree with that. I think that John Beaton had a good view.

“I think the fourth official also had a good view and the two of them obviously decided that it was worthy of a yellow.”
