With Celtic scouring the transfer market to strengthen the squad for the coming season, the left back area has been problematic for the Hoops ever since Kieran Tierney left Parkhead to complete his £25m move to Arsenal.

With the Hoops trying to fill that void with Boli Bolingoli and the disastrous Diego Laxalt, the only player ever coming close to showing he has what it takes to make that position his own is Greg Taylor and although Taylor may not be the answer, Tierney believes there is one man in the youth academy that can take up his mantle.

Speaking to The Sun, Tierney had some words of advice for young left back Adam Montgomery, “I saw that John Kennedy was talking about Adam Montgomery, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about him. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see his debut.

“But I know from speaking to Kendo and Greg Taylor at Celtic that he’s a good talent and a decent boy too. I wish him all the best. It’s always great to see someone come through the Celtic academy.

“It was special for me to come through the ranks to the first team. Now, Adam’s got a chance of progressing, and I’d love to see him get more games and push for a place.

“All I’d advise him to do is enjoy everything. From what I’ve heard he’s a good enough player and a lad with the right attitude.”

A glowing endorsement indeed for young Montgomery and hopefully he can live up to the potential that Tierney and others at the club clearly feel he has.
