As it looks like it is just a matter of time until Ange Postecoglu is announced as the next Celtic manager, many in the media world have been trying to get a handle on who exactly is the Australian coach and what is his style?

The relatively unknown coach (in this part of the world at least) became the shock front runner to succeed former boss Neil Lennon on Friday when it was announced that the Eddie Howe deal had broken down.

Speaking on the BBC Sportsound podcast, Australian international, Ryan McGowan, gave an in depth insight into the potential Hoops boss and said that news broke to a flurry of excitement in Australia.

McGowan played under Postecoglu in the Socceroo’s and earned twenty caps under the boss he calls ‘one of the bet coaches’ he’s ever worked with, “He’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with. He’s is a bit standoffish. He is the boss. What he says goes. With the national team it wouldn’t matter if it was me playing my second game or Cahill playing his 90th game.

“Everyone was on the same page with the way he wants to play. It’s his way or the highway, there’s no in between. So unless you buy into it, you’d be out the door.”

“There’s not many players that would say a bad word about him that have played under him. He’s just so driven and so determined on the way that he wants to play that game. If you do buy into that and you play the way he want’s to play, then he’ll back you back to the hilt”.

McGowan also took a swip at the Scottish media when it was suggested that Postecoglu wouldn’t be able to handle the spotlight of Glasgow,  “I think Scottish pundits and people like yourselves give Scottish football a little bit of a hard time it’s not sort of the 60s and 70s with the bad pitches and terrible weather.

“It’s a lot better to play your brand of football now and most teams in the Premier League, are trying to play football, so I don’t think he’ll struggle with that aspect.

“He’s a very smart, clever man and, which is one of the main reasons why he has been so successful, everywhere is went”

“He’s definitely not a yes man. He was having a little bit of trouble with this sort of Federation in Australia before the World Cup and and left us four months out of the World Cup. So he had the chance to take us to a World Cup and he wasn’t happy with some decisions.

“If Celtic don’t match (his ambitions) then he wouldn’t take the job, so he’s definitely not a yes man. I have no worries at all that he will be successful if he goes to Celtic.”

With the deal still not concluded at this moment, it seems from McGowan’s testament, that the Celtic fans are in for a treat should they seal the deal this week. The only question is will the fans buy into this as a “Celtic class” managerial signing and persuade them to part with their hard earned cash and renew their season tickets?
