As the international break continues, this give us the chance to take stock and look at the transfer business of the club and the current performance of the Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou.

So far, most analysis has been fairly positive, from the style of football to the current crop of signings it does seem the rebuild won’t take as long as many predicted.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been having his say in his column and it is fair to say, as an open and honest critic of the club, his feedback has been surprisingly positive, “But you have to take it from the baseline of last season. Celtic were woeful last term, so do they look better equipped now?

“You better believe it.

“Perhaps I’m going soft in my old age but I think Celtic are ahead of where we thought they would be.

“That might sound mad after a derby defeat, but when you look at the mess Postecoglou had to mop up, I think he’s performed a minor miracle getting the side competitive at this stage and getting them to the Europa League.

“They were a whisker away from beating Rangers last week and they will only improve as the new faces settle.

“It was always going to take him more than one window but no one can say the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada and Joe Hart haven’t made an impact.”

Fairly upbeat from Sutton considering the club took an early bath from the Champions League and lost the first Glasgow Derby of the season which see’s the Hoops trail their rivals by three points.

But I have to agree, we are miles ahead from where anyone predicted and it seems this season might be a painful one after all.
