After yet another woeful derby performance, the new Celtic gaffer (when he is eventually announced) has a major job on his hands to turn around the fortunes of the Parkhead club. Today’s defeat leaves the Hoops a massive twenty three points behind their rivals at the top of the table in what will bring an end to a shocking season by anyone’s standards.
With fresh blood required to turn around the club’s fortunes, a report has surfaced today that English Premier League star, James McCarthy, is set to join Celtic in the summer. Football news site, Givemesport, has said their “sources” close to Celtic have confirmed that negotiations are at an “advanced stage” and the only hold up in finalising the deal is the manager situation.
Do you think Eddie Howe will become the Celtic manager?
With Eddie Howe likely to be named the manager in the coming week, that could be enough to persuade McCarthy to sign on the dotted line with the Hoops. The 30 year old midfielder is out of contract in the summer and has been used sparingly by Crystal Palace with McCarthy only making seven appearances for The Eagles this season.
With Scott Brown leaving at the end of the season to join Aberdeen, McCarthy is seen as the ideal replacement for the Celtic legend in the defensive midfield position. The site also claims that Celtic are on the trail of out of contract stars Kwadwo Baah, Declan Gallagher and Siriki Dembélé.
There is no doubt that there will be extensive moves this summer by Celtic and McCarthy could be one of a number of players expected to pull on the famous Hoops next season.
