With the excitement of the Eddie Howe developments over the last twenty four hours, respected journalist Stephen McGowan, has given an excitement update on the Celtic manager position.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, McGowan backed his assertion that Howe is close to becoming the Celtic manager and has also rebuffed claims that the young English manager is holding out for a top job in the English Premier League, “With this one, nothing’s done until it’s done. Until he’s standing in the stadium with a scarf above his head I think caution has to be the watch word.  Eddie Howe is already speaking to people about becoming part of his backroom team.

“We already know he wants to take Richard Hughes from Bournemouth to head up player recruitment.  That one can go either way. I’m less sure about that one than I was a couple of weeks ago. But if it doesn’t work for both parties I gather he’s already speaking to other candidates, he has other options.

“Some of them are fairly obvious. He would probably like to get Mark Burchill, a former Celtic striker, in some capacity. Coaches have been named like Simon Featherston and Steven Purches.

“There are certainly people in Bournemouth he would like to get in. The trouble is Bournemouth are going for promotion.”

Is Eddie Howe the man for the Celtic job?

YES

NO

LET'S MOVE ON

McGowan does understand that the frustrations of the fans at the apparent media blackout but has admitted journalists are being told very little about what is going on at Celtic Park, “We are operating in a vacuum of information here contrary to what so many people think. There’s no leaking, there’s no briefing going on. Journalists are operating on scraps.  From Celtic’s point of view that’s how should be.  A professional way to do it. But now Eddie Howe is talking to potential backroom staff.

“There’s nothing that suggest to me he is holding out for a Crystal Palace, a  Newcastle or anything of that nature. I think he fancies something different. I think he’s taking his Celtic opportunity very seriously.”

McGowan is well respected withing the Celtic circles and has been a reliable source of information in the past. Celtic fans will be hoping that he is bang on the money with this one and it is my opinion that an announcement will be made after the Glasgow Derby on Sunday. Let’s hope it is Howe and the rebuild can begin.
