This is a strange one. A very strange one indeed.

As Celtic look to strengthen  the squad ahead of the season, it is widely regarded that there are three positions Ange Postecoglou needs to look at strengthening.

Central defence, defensive midfielder and, possibly, a third choice striker.

With the future of Chris Jullien uncertain, we could be looking at two in that position for cover should he move on but, essentially, those are the three positions that many fans agree we should be looking to strengthen.

So, why then, is former reported target, George Baldock being ‘lined up’ for a move to Paradise according to Pete O’Rourke?

In his column in Football Insider, O’Rourke claims that the Hoops are looking to reignite their interest in the 29 year old right back in a move that would be completely out of Ange Postecoglou’s usual remit.

Not only that, with Juranovic and Ralston providing more than adequate cover on the right flank, if Baldock is brought in, what would that mean in terms of Ralston’s future (assuming Juranovic isn’t pushed further forward)?

But, of course, this speculation is based on whether or not the club lose Juranovic due to recent speculation regarding his future even though he has stated on two occasions that he is happy at the club.

Of course, he cites a ‘Celtic source’ as providing him with this information but looking at how Ange Postecoglou deals in the transfer market, I highly doubt a player at 29 years old who has previously been linked with the club is a serious target.
