It’s always difficult to tell whether or not this publication is genuine when it cites it’s own sources but never provides a quote or a soundbite.

But Football Insider has claimed that Celtic target Riley McGree has arrived in Teeside ahead of his £5m move to Middlesborough.

Celtic had thought the deal was all wrapped up yesterday and that they had secured their fifth signing of the winter window, but a late move by the English Championship club seems to have scuppered the deal.

The report says a recruitment insider has revealed that ‘Boro have offered more wages than the Parkhead side and that the promotion chasing side have also pushed the boat out to land the Australian international.

Money can do incredible things to people.

With just seven points off automatic promotion to the English Premier League and I can understand the pull of trying his hand at helping to gain promotion to the richest league in the land.

But let’s face it. This u turn smacks of a player with no ambition. No desire to win trophies. And it’s all about the money.

Ange Postecoglou requires players who are committed. The style of play and the expectations of the fans demands at least that.

I think the Hoops have dodged one here.

It isn’t often I agree with the sentiments of this column, but on this ocassion, I agree 100%.
It’s quite obvious that any player who would choose Middlesborough, or in fact 95% of the clubs in England over Celtic, lacks quite a bit of what it takes to become a star in Paradise.
He has prioritized ambitions to make money, and in fairness that is every young players prerogative. Their short sightedness however is different!
He would not have been a success with Celtic with this mentality. Clearly he doesn’t feel capable of carving out a regular start in Paradise.
Middlesbourogh are probably the right choice in his case.
