Just last week I reported that journalist, Mark Guidi, tipped a massive boardroom change at Celtic amid rumours that upheaval was coming at the top of the club.

With the Hoops in the hunt for a new CEO, speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said, “I would bring in Martin O’Neill as the new Celtic chairman. Martin O’Neill has gravitas. He’s highly intelligent. He knows the football club, and he’s a leader.

“And I’m not saying bring him in to oversee Ange Postecoglou, no not at all.

“A prestigious position to lead the football club

Former Rangers captain, Barry Ferguson agreed with Guidi on the show and said the move makes sense as O’Neill would be a safe pair of hands, “Yeah, he knows the game inside out. He knows the club inside out. Like a General Manager, somebody above the manager where if he’s struggling a wee bit or is unsure, you can go and tap in to that experience.

“I was just thinking about the Martin O’Neill thing. Safe pair of hands as well.

“Somebody like that will come in and stay out the way, but if you need to go and ask him anything.

“But if you need any help, he is there.

“And for a manager and a coach, a good safety blanket as well for you and he knows the club inside out.

“It’s a good shout.”

It remains to be seen when any boardroom changes will take place but if Martin O’Neill is appointed in the Chairman role, that would be a popular choice amongst the fans.

But then, the board don’t do popular choices for the fans do they?
