As Vital Celtic reported that John Beaton was set to take charge of the last Glasgow Derby of the season, the decision by Scotlands Governing body to award the match to an official with such a questionable background was met with fury by the Celtic fans of this site.

In the comments of the article, the fans vented their frustrations and scepticism that the choice of referee was the right one:

James said: “Beaton will send someone off first chance he gets…and it will be someone in hoops.”

Brian was straight to the point: “Aye but we just need to rise above it. I’m sick hearing crap like that! What’s needed is a board of directors with some balls.”

Dinger was not happy with the governing body: “Only in Scotland this would happen no other country would allow it.”

John McGhee was seething at the appointment: “If John ‘loyalist’ Beaton  costs Celtic the title with his honest mistakes then i can see a riot on Sunday.

“If Beaton does a Bobby Madden and lets Sevco players kick Celtic players about that park, Beaton will get what Dallas got. Dirty cheats at SFA and SPFL.”

Very strong from McGhee but we at Vital Celtic do not endorse violence of any sorts towards match officials. It’s idiotic and, quite frankly, if anyone does partake in such a mindless act, they deserve to be dealt with fully by the law of the land.

If Celtic play their football, they won’t need to worry about the referee.

Let’s hope for a repeat performance of the last Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park.
