When the Giorgos Giakoumakis transfer saga kicked off, it is one that caught every Celtic fan off guard.
A player who was scoring goals, albeit from the bench most games, had just started a new family and had a great first season at the club finishing as the top scorer in Scotland AND bagging a league and cup double, how could he not be unhappy.
With the offer of a new Celtic contract being rejected, the wheels were set in motion to offload the striker.
A bit harsh you would think? Asking for a payrise for being the top scorer is not the most unreasonable thing I can think of.
Until you hear what A Celtic State of Mind‘s John Hughes revealed on Twitter.
Once again, I am just relaying information and as John says, this is unconfirmed, so I invite you all to draw your own conclusions.
John also brought to us the alleged story surrounding Dom McKay’s departure which I invite you all to read.
Taking to Twitter, John said:
I’ve been told that GG tried to walk back his position but Ange was absolutely not having it.
It’s unconfirmed, but easy to believe because it seems so in character.

And when quizzed further by fans:
I think they were negotiating improved terms. He was offered increased wages he felt were insufficient. Then he started down the ‘agent generating interest’ path. Turns out that path was a one way street🤷♂️

Think realising he couldn’t walk it back might have been what led to the huff!

And when pressed about his source:
As I said. Reliable but unconfirmed.

So, what do you think of this?
In my opinion, I can certainly see that scenario panning out as what we have witnessed from the striker since the contract was rejected but as John says, until we hear it from the horses mouth, we can only guess as to why Giakoumakis took the road he went down.
