After Celtic’s 1-1 draw in the Glasgow Derby yesterday, the league is all but over.

So the attention will now turn to the clubs transfer business and if anything, last week was just a barometer of how the speculation is going to hit the headlines this year.

Think about it. This was a week where the league could have been all but wrapped up if Celtic had beaten Rangers yesterday but most of the headlines surrounding the club where about transfers.

But one such transfer story that was reported last week seems dead in the water.

Alexandre Mendy was tipped as a possible target for the Hoops Anthony Joseph has laid that rumour to rest but also dropped a massive teaser as well over the weekend.

Taking to Twitter, the popular Sky Sports journalist said, “Understand there’s been no contact from Celtic for Caen striker Alexandre Mendy.

“I’d imagine they’ll be looking for a striker in the summer… unless Albian Ajeti bursts back onto the scene AND Ange Postecoglou sees Daizen Maeda as a striker long-term.

“Not a priority, though.”

And it makes sense. Maeda is not an out and out striker by any stretch.

Postecoglou, although is delighted with Kyogo and Giakoumakis, must be looking at the front line and thinking another body in there would shore that position up.

This summer will be a different animal when it comes to transfer speculation and I, for one, can’t wait to see what rabbits Ange Postecoglou pulls out of the hat this time.

Just my opinion we need a strong ball-winning midfielder who will allow CM to do what he does best.
