With Celtic clearly in the market for a left sided defender, the Hoops fans are looking forward to the January window as the club continues to be linked with players from overseas, but mainly in Japan.

With speculation rife that Reo Hatate is set to join the club in the early stages of the window, former Celtic striker Charhttps://celtic.vitalfootball.co.uk/hugh-keevins-outlandish-solution-to-celtics-striker-and-left-back-problem/lie Nicholas, has recommended that the Hoops should be targeting someone closer to home.

Speaking in his column in The Express [transcribed by The Daily Record], Nicholas said, “They need a left-back and I would go for Doig at Hibs. He has just signed a new contract so it would have to be a decent transfer fee but he is one for the future.

“I see him in the Kieran Tierney mould and if he keeps developing he will get better and better.

“Celtic can’t go out and buy the finished article. They need to develop players and sell them on. That is the Celtic model.

“It also looks like Celtic are quite far down the road to sign a second Japanese player in Reo Hatate, who can also play left-back.

“If Celtic signed both Doig and Hatate that would be the left-back spot covered and you could push Josip Jurnanovic across to the other flank to fight it out with Anthony Ralston.”

At just 19 years old, and with four Scotland caps to his name, Doig has a great future ahead of him at the club but with a £3.6m evaluation [Transfermrkt] would the Celtic board be of a mind to pay a fee for a Scottish player that would probably eclipse the £4.4m that was shelled out for Scott Brown?

This is not the first time Doig has been tipped for a Celtic move so it remains to be seen if there are indeed, any legs to this story.
