I guess this is a topic that will never truly go away will now will it?
Every so often I see it pop up on social media and generally, I’ll just leave it alone but what interested he here was the wide ranging opinions on former Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers.
The Celtic fans are probably the best fans for having a sensible debate when it comes to former players or managers but Rodgers always seems to bring out the most ‘passionate’ side of us.
We all know why though. His claims of being a life long supporter of the club now fall on deaf ears because of how he left the club and his supposed actions whilst doing it.
Rumours that he tried to take the backroom staff were plentiful on social media which didn’t help his already tarnished popularity with the supporters but one thing that cannot be denied is that he brought class and professionalism to the club.
But what are the fans thoughts on him now?
This thread on twitter was an interesting read:
It wasn't that he left it was he left mid-season and dropped us init.

Don’t understand why burns is revered so much within the support? Forrest has more titles/cups for instance. I missed most of his time playing to be fair, being born in 83. When managing his style was great to watch but only won 1 cup v airdrie and lost 1 to raith rovers on pens

Big Billy will always be the man for me – nobody could inspire like him
I was angry with BR at the time but Lawwell has to take responsibility in that also
But I know for sure if BR hadnt arrived in paradise the glory past 6 yrs woulda by passed us.
For that Im a forgiver 😊

Couldn’t agree with this more, there was always a sense of gratefulness but never idolisation, Ange on the other hand had to start from me and most people being in the dark or sceptical about him and now I’d trust him with my life savings 😀

I’m surprised anyone actually thought he was a Celtic fan.

Agree with that. The anger against Brendan has subsided and we know that Lawwell was interfering with player recruitment so I can understand why he got pissed off at Celtic. But there’s a way to leave and how he did it will always leave a sour taste.

For me the biggest variable between them which is in Martins favour is he turned the screw, set in motion the near two decades of dominance that has followed and for that we should always be thankful for him

We can all change jobs. He did well. The Board weren’t backing him. Their bad decisions & ‘just do enough’ approach (at that time) was illustrated by the acquisition of Lennon and a list of poor signings. The right changes have been made at all levels! But Rodgers did well.

He’s a great manager who gave us great times and has done a good job at Leicester. Absolutely no hard feelings from me.

All Rodgers had to do was face the fans first and give a truthful explanation of what was going on at Celtic and things might be different

Said the other day how Martin O'Neill still excites the senses. However, when I hear Brendan Rodgers on TV I just feel indifferent towards him. To have walked out mid-season for EPL mid table mediocrity was unforgivable but any anger felt has now just passed into apathy. pic.twitter.com/Eu60HBUVa1

What he did for us was amazing and it should never be forgot we don’t know what went on behind closed doors, maybe he could see no future with the man pulling the strings, as far as I am concerned he will always be a top man.
Can’t believe the statement bought burns being revered by celtic support I know he said he was born in 83 but obviously doesn’t understand that at the time he was Mr celtic man and the man’s died ooooft anyway no disrespect meant either to the guy that said it as far as Rodgers go’s well it is or was what it was he brought along of professionalism back to the club and glory year after year then done the dirty as someone else mentioned he shoild of had a press conference to explain his decision but would he have got out alive lol and I think that really says it all just left a bad taste and the glory years won’t save him as a legend at the club now its tainted by his own actions that was in place and spoke about long before he left in my eyes it never happens like that a boss doing a moonlight flit doubt it hail hail
PADDY as I’ve said on this blog before BR IS A SNAKE WHO SNEAKED OUT THE DOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TRYING TO TAKE ALL THE BACKROOM STAFF WITH HIM, WHAT KIND OF CELTIC MAN DOES THAT?BR IS ONLY INTERESTED IN ONE PERSON IN THE WORLD AND THATS HIMSELF,ALSO I’LL NEVER FORGIVE LIEWWELL FOR ALLOWING THE SEVCO SCUM TO SURVIVE THAT MAN IS A RAT.
