With Celtic finally ending the Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths saga  during the transfer window, starting places up top for the Hoops are up for grabs for the strikers at the club to claim for their own.

With the Parkhead club sealing a deal for Greek striker Gorgios Giakoumakis and, of course, with star signing Kyogo Furuhashi already showing he will be the main man for Celtic this season, with Ange Postecoglou preferring a three up top look to suit his pressing style, there is an opportunity for other players like Albian Ajeti to finally show their worth.

The £5m signing from West Ham had failed to set the heather on fire under old gaffer Neil Lennon, and it looks like this season he may also be used sparingly as Ange Postecoglou has only used the Swiss forward in a series of fleeting substitute appearances.

And that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon, according to journalist and Celtic author Anthony Haggerty.

Speaking to This is Futbol, Haggerty predicts a bleak future for the Celtic front man, “I think he has got ability but has maybe kept it well hidden up until now.

“For £5million, which was Celtic’s outlay on him, I think they were looking for a lot more.

“The fans would say persevere with him this season but I think he’s going to be a bit-part player.”

There is no doubt Ajeti has pedigree as his goal scoring exploits in Switzerland showed but since his big £10m move from Basel to West Ham back in 2019, Ajeti has struggled to live up to his big price tag and still struggles at Parkhead to this day.

Celtic fans may still hope that the Swiss hitman will turnaround his form, but early signs are his chances at Parkhead will be few and far between.
