The transfer silly season is well and truly upon us now.

And it will only get worse as we approach the final few days due to Celtic’s new injury crisis.

With things looking up for the Hoops after the Hogmanay captures of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate which was then followed up with the arrival of Johnny Kenny and Matt O’Riley, prior to Saturday night, the Celtic fans were looking forward to the last half of the season with a touch more optimism than ever before this season.

But with the news of the captain and Ideguchi suffering a lengthy lay off, it seems another foray into the transfer market could be on the cards for Ange Postecoglou.

Which has probably prompted this report [The Daily Record] to highlight four names that have been constantly cooking away on the backburner for the whole of January.

Mehdi Ghayedi was first mentioned by this site way back in the 11th January. And although the report says Celtic have been in ‘constant’ contact, there has been no note of anything official in terms of movement in an offer, never mind a deal.

Lee Buchanan was one Vital Celtic wrote about just a few days ago as we highlighted how the speculated summer target could be available for a bargain as Derby County’s financial problems continue this season.

Zinedine Ferhat was also covered by Vital Celtic as we reported that French media outlets spoke of Ferhat being AWOL from Nimes as interest in the youngster from Celtic and two French sides intensified. There has been no update since.

Callum Styles was a player we reported on after Celtic blogger Born Celtic contacted respected transfer journalist Alan Nixon after interest in the player from the Parkhead club became public. Nixon at the time said that Celtic were “Watching … closely … talented player … very attack minded“.

There is little to suggest from this report in The Record where the ‘state of play’ is which is extremely frustrating and out of the four players mentioned, my opinion is that there is more credibility to the Callum Styles story than the rest.

This will be a long six days!
