It seemed like he was on his way out. With Brendan Rodgers sniffing around Celtic like a bloodhound, it was claimed an £18m bid was secured and Rodgers had his man. But as talks broke down, Rodgers walked away and it seems like Celtic are stuck with Odsonne Edouard for the foreseeable future.
Now I know I said “stuck with” but in the right context, they are. Edouard had made clear his desire to quit the Hoops this summer and as yet, has showed no intentions of extending his stay beyond the end of next season.
Until now.
Celtic news site, Celtic Now and Forever, have claimed that the French u21 star has entered talks with the Parkhead club to extend his contract by a further year, rather than run the risk of losing their star man for nothing at the end of next season.
But what would be in it for Edouard?

Clearly a payrise. But what is also clear is that Edouard doesn’t want to play for Celtic. So the question is, can Celtic REALLY afford to deal him in and cause further unrest in the dressing room?
Edouard is without doubt a class act but it does seem that interest in the Frenchman has cooled. So would he benefit from a new deal? Would Celtic? Short term, yes. But longer term and the effect it could possibly have on the team? Who knows.
One thing is for sure. If Postecoglou manages to persuade Edouard to stay for a further year and it turns out to be pivotal in the title race, he will be hailed as a hero. And if it fails? That is too much to even ponder at this stage.
