Wow. Now this was some call.
As regular readers know, I like to bring you Celtic news from the podcast world to inform the fans of what pundits and media men say about the club that may not get reported on.
And one of the best (if I can use that word) sources of opinion about Celtic is Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
We all remember some of the headlines that followed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou back in June.
We all even remember the press conference held by the club to introduce the new Celtic manager to the press and some of the ‘strange’ questions posed to the former Socceroo manager that inferred that his knowledge of football here may not be as strong.
It was quite an embarrassing episode for Scottish journalism and I think it is fair to say, it didn’t get any better when Celtic lost to Hearts and got knocked out of the Champions League.
In the aftermath of that, Hugh Keevins wrote and article that was derided by the Australian media and this Celtic fan, Gerry, called the show last night to hold him accountable for it in a conversation that was quite incredible.
Gerry started off by saying, “I know Hugh wrote an article a few months ago saying, ‘Ange: Absolutely Not Good Enough.‘
“I just wonder if Hugh’s going to retract that statement now, given the fact that Ange has won the league cup.
“We’re only six points behind….'”
At this point Hugh interrupted and rambled on about an article he had written praising Ange but the caller was not to be perturbed as he got to his main point of the call, “Perhaps, Hugh, if you’d let me finish. I may have quoted that article.
“I may have mentioned the fact that you were blaming Celtic for not being any away fans at the derby games anymore when it’s clearly not their fault. But let’s put that to one side for one moment.
“Will you apologise to Ange Postecoglou?”
Hugh replied, “At the point, at which the article was written, and for those who did not read it, it was written the day or published the day after Celtic had lost at Tynecastle, they had gone out to Midtjylland, they had lost to Hearts at Tynecastle and at that point it was not good enough.
“But a season lasts a long time. It lasts from July 31 until next May.
“So as the season progresses I refer you again to yesterday’s article, praising Ange Postecoglou for turning a wreckage in a cup winning start to the season by the power of positive thinking on the part of Ange Postecoglou.”
Gerry was having none of it when he replied, “The power of positive thinking? Do you not think it’s down to the fact that Ange is a great coach rather than some kind of Jedi mind trick?
“And you don’t think it’s a bad idea to write that article after one game in the domestic season?
“Maybe you should have waited until December or January time before making a more, informed opinion?”
Hugh, “Well, you want me to just tell the paper I can’t speak to you just now I’ll phone you back in four months?”
Gerry: “I want you to give a more balanced argument when you’re discussing someone who’s only arrived in the country after a few weeks.
“He’s upped sticks from the other side of the world. He’s coming with no backroom staff.
“He’s given everything he’s got and, yeah, there was difficult results of the start of the season but at least wait until November before you slur the man and then say absolutely not good enough.
“I think that’s disrespectful Hugh.”
Quite a call and one that will resonate with a lot of Celtic fans not just with Hugh, but many in the Scottish media.
What is great to see is Ange proving all the doubters wrong and as he proved last night, the Celtic gaffer can’t half spot a player!

The thing is about ‘so called Tims’ in the media, they can’t be honest with themselves, they have to appease their paymasters and mock Celtic.
I know it’s hard to ignore shows like SSB, It’s in our DNA, but do you think Ange pays any attention to a prat like keevins???

We as supporters tend to go over board on new arrivals but watch replay of hatate and his movement and reading of the game and forward passing we have a class player

Why celtic supporters tune into this utter garbage is beyond me. Just stop listening to this stupid old tit who,s never played any type of professional football in his miserable life. Then maybe this show will be taken off air .HAIL HIAL MON THE HOOPS
I never heard what was said I think I caught the end of it I just got in to listen ! I heard something like 23 years from mr DOOM & GLOOM KEEVENS ! If you phone up & complain they can say switch over & don’t need to listen to him ! I like Gordon Dalziel , mark Wilson ! Jim Duffy not because I’m a Celtic fan ! But you get Rae on & that other one from hearts ! I listen because some of it is beyond me how SHUG the mug & co spew their vile supposedly fair comments
