As the Dom McKay saga rumbles on and on, there has been various theories floated around as the the reasons why the former Celtic CEO left his post after seventy two days.

Some have suggested it was his inexperience of football transfers, others have said there has been disagreements from the boardroom on the direction McKay wanted to take the club and that the board ambition didn’t meet his.

But one that was mooted on The Go Radio Football Show was that has McKay been pushed because he overspent in the summer transfer window?

And this is one journalist and pundit of the show Mark Guidi, seemed to shoot down as he broke down the clubs transfer spend, albeit it very layman’s terms, over the course of the window and he seemed to suggest that maybe Celtic didn’t spend enough as he tallied up all the figures, “I mean I certainly hope that whatever the circumstances behind Don McKay’s departure on Friday has got nothing to do with the board thinking that he’s maybe overspent?

“Because as I’ve said many times in the programme, my calculation this calendar year,  Celtic have brought in the region of £45 million pounds in transfer fees from Frimpong to Ajer to Edouard to Ryan Christie and two or three more.

“They also brought in through the Celtic support about £30 million pounds in season ticket money when they were asked to pledge the season ticket sales when the club didn’t even have a manager in place.

“So you looked at that and then thanks to Ange Postecoglou and the players they have the £10 million or so on Europa League money.

“And I think the spend is what, twenty odd million on players from from Kyogo and Joe Hart and Carl Starfelt and five or six others.

“Looking over the piece Celtic are approximately, comfortably £50 of £60 million better off, and I know that it’s fairly simple calculations.

“But whatever the reasons for Dom McKay’s departure it surely can’t be because he’s overspent.”

Yeah, I think that theory can be put to bed but with the vasts amounts of money being brought into the club since January, maybe the board are looking to hedge their bets and further strengthen in the January window whilst Postecoglou runs the rule over his new recruits?

With the club finances in a very healthy position, I would certainly hope that would be the case.
